The  ‘Hogilo’ hedgehog habitat is a purpose built nesting box and shelter for hedgehogs which can also be used as a feeding lounge.

It is an ideal house for injured or rescue hogs due to the design of the house, which allows for easy inspection and cleaning. It was featured on the BBC programme Autumn Watch with the Hedgehog Rescue team!

Features include:

  • Manufactured from durable FSC timber & recycled agricultural plastic (By the nature of the re-cycled plastic this may vary in colour tone)
  • Wooden interior for ‘breathability’ and condensation prevention
  • Lid & sides made from recycled agricultural waste
  • Lid easily swivels over to expose large inspection and cleaning hatch
  • Lid incorporates wooden ‘plug’ to insulate hatch aperture
  • Overhanging roof and porch
  • Raised battened feet to prevent rot
  • Predator-resistant entrance
  • Can be used as a safe feeding lounge

Hedgehog houses give protection from predators and provide safe areas for hogs which protects them from strimmers, garden forks and bonfires.

Siting: Locate within cover, out of prevailing wind.  Pile leaves and short grass around the Hogilo and put a couple of handfuls  of short dry grass and leaves inside the box as nesting material. (Gloves should be worn to prevent the transfer of human scent)

Features: FSC timber and recycled plastic, attractive unique design.  British design and manufacture.  Approved for use by the British Hedgehog Preservation Society.

whelping_box2We’ve just received a lovely email from one of our very happy customers who ordered a modified version of one of our Dog Whelping Boxes, in fact Ann asked us to make her special Dog Boxes with feet. (We’ll always accommodate any requests we can).

“The dog beds surpassed my expectations. Thank you so very much for getting them done for me. So simple in design, yet exactly what I was looking for. Off the ground, with sides. One of our dogs pulled a leg muscle and it was so easy just to remove the front slats for a while so he could easily get in and out. Simple to keep clean. Although all our hounds love to chew the square ends, the wood doesn’t splinter and is sufficiently robust for no constructive damage to be done.

Quite simply…an excellent product. Thank you so very much. I shall be taking some pics (as soon as I can get the camera working) and will send them through to you and to my houndie friends too (with a very high recommendation!). ”

With kind regards  Ann O

Thanks Ann – we’re delighted to know that they’re exactly what you wanted and hope the inhabitants love them as much as we all do!

Did you know that more of the food that we’re eating in the UK is grown in gardens and on allotments according to the Family Food Report from Defra which analyses the habits of the British population.

Stats show that we more than doubled our intake of home-grown produce in the three years from 2008 with home grown fruit and vegetables accounting for five percent of all food consumed. Also, the good news too is that home-laid eggs are also getting more and more popular along with soft fruits and apples.

Spokesperson for the National Allotment Society, Georgie Willock said “Everyone’s looking for a way to save money but also to have a healthy lifestyle. When you grow your own fruit and veg the two go together.”

Here at The Recycle Works we’re passionate about spreading the news and we’ve purposely introduced products in all price ranges from budget to professional so that every budget can be catered for. There’s nothing more rewarding than eating something that you’ve grown and nowadays more than ever, it’s comforting to know that GYO is food you can trust!

At The Recycle Works we are delighted that one of our Classic Single FSC Wooden Compost Bins is currently being trialed at Highgrove.highgroveThis year, Highgrove will be hosting a number of one day courses where you can learn how to create rich compost from everyday household waste. Using practical skills, guests can actively learn the skills of composting from guest lecturer Dide Lucas with this broad introduction to domestic composting. There will be something for everyone whether you have a large or small garden or none at all! The absolute beginner to the more experienced will be able learn something while spending an enjoyable day in an inspirational location.

The day will be divided into two sessions: a theory morning looking at ‘Why we should compost?’ including getting started,  different methods and their suitable applications, using what we make, and much more.

During the afternoon guests will head outside for a practical session putting some of the mornings theory into practice.

So if you’d like to see one of our Compost Bins in situ then why not book a place on one of the courses and have an educational and rewarding day out.
