Today really is a BIG day and in more than one sense of the word!

While the world’s media is focusing today on the inauguration of Barack Obama as President of the United States, we here at the Recycle Works are really excited about the launch of our NEW website

www.gardeningwithchildren.co.uk.

Gardening With Children

Gardening With Children

Our fantastic new website has been designed by the brilliant team at Chamber Internet and our big thanks go out to Jon (for his brilliant design),  Shaf and Debbi (who did all the twiddly bits) for all their hard work over the last few month – they have had to cope with us make continual changes to the content without loosing their cool – but finally, today, the site went live!

Gardeningwithchildren is the brainchild of Sylvia and is an extension of her ‘Love Your Environment’ campaign.  It’s aim is simple – to encourage children to get into the garden – and in particular, to learn how to grow and enjoy their own healthy food.

The site has been designed so that it can used by both families and schools as a source of information and as an educational resource. It is packed with information, fact sheets, competitions, quizzes and games that all can enjoy – be it mum, dad, grandparents or teachers – but most importantly, children.

Please take a look at the site – and let us have your comments. We’d love to know what you think of the site.

Schools To Face £50 Charge For Composting?

Well I think I’ve heard it all now! In The Telegraph yesterday there was an article by Louise Gray revealing that schools may face a £50 charge for the privilege of being able to compost! Also, it’s not just schools that may be affected but also community groups as well.

If you’d like to read the full article simply click here however my personal opinion is surely we should all be making sure that things like this aren’t allowed to be implemented as we’re trying to educate our children to care for the environment more!

Not only does composting reduce the amout of landfill, surely it promotes the fact that we waste far too much anyway and should be recycling whereever and whenever we can?

It will be really interesting to see if this idea develops further, let’s hope it doesn’t as promoting gardening, composting and caring for the environment in schools can only be a good thing. Let’s encourage our children to do more of it!
