How many of us have old mobile phones lying around in a drawer, doing absolutely nothing and just collecting dust? I know the team at The Recycle Works collectively have quite a few!

Did you know though that if you send your old mobile to Envirofone, not only will they send you an amount of money for each phone but you’ll also be helping the environment.

You can also choose to give the money you earn to charity as a donation so you can be helping two causes at the same time!

If you’d like to find out more simply click on the logo aboev and folow the really simple process. It won’t cost you anything to do and both you and the environment will end up being better off.

Vertical Growing System

I cannot remember if I have told you about the new Polanter, get it, Pole-Planter? We know it will be a great summer seller on the website, but we want you to have the opportunity to give it to someone for Christmas. The quality is first rate as it has been designed by an aircraft engineer, Dave. Nothing has been left to chance. There is a watering system from top to bottom and you can replenish by using your hose pipe. YES! So easy. They can be extended upwards, (or downwards) so you have the option to go from the top to the bottom of a wall, a fence or a doorway for example. Further they fix by a bracket attached to the wall and so they will just lift off (and slip back on) for replanting, winter, or for cleaning. We are really impressed.

This Polanter Vertical Growing System leaves nothing to chance. Watering is evenly distributed along the length of the Polanter, so you will not get dry plants at the top and flooded plants at the base, ever again. There are some fabulous colours which we will introduce in spring, but we are stocking Green, Terracotta, White and Lavender at the moment. They are so very pretty and born for Bedding plants and for herb planting. Not only that but we think the price is a gift too.

More Wisdom from FoE – Green Screen

Prevent windscreen fluid from freezing up on cold winter nights by mixing one part water with two parts white vinegar and filling the reservoir with the blend. This should keep the system free of ice crystals in cold conditions, enabling you to clean muddy windscreens in the morning.

Thank you to Friends of the Earth……

rain poem, recycle works

rain cloudA Customer on the Isle of Mull sent us this brilliant fun verse. This week it will ring home with most of us in UK:

It rained and rained and rained and rained
The average was well maintained
And when our fields were simply bogs
It started raining cats and dogs
After a drought of half an hour
There came a most refreshing shower
And then the queerest thing of all
A gentle rain began to fall

Next day ’twas pretty fairly dry
Save for a deluge from the sky
This wetted people to the skin
But after that the rain set in
We wondered, what’s the next we’d get
As sure as fate we got more wet
But soon we’ll have a change again
And we shall have
A drop of rain.

The Polanter - Available In Various Colours

This week at The Recycle Works the new products are definitely for Summer! But we thought you would like to show them or give them to your friends. Polanters really are new on the market and we think they look georgous. As we are GYO buffs we suggest that you plant with strawberries, but there are dozens of way to make them sing!

These vertical gardens can be extended and they all have an integral watering system that will not drop the water to the bottom so the top ones do not get any – and the bottom ones get too much. We think they are a great space saving idea and will adapt for herbs. A column of thyme and another of mints or parsley will give great pleasure in at least three dimensions. That is aromas, visually and can be used for cooking whilst providing food for beneficial insects and bees.

We think these would make great stocking fillers for Christmas!

Plug and Grow Horticultural Light

Plug and Grow Horticultural Light

We recieved a question from one of our Recycle Works customers this week and thought the answer might be of interest to a lot of our customers and hence sharing it with you on the blog…..

Q: Hello, I was wondering what light spectrum the envirolite 200w lamp provides? Is it a light/blue or red? I needed to know as the light/blue will be better for vegatative growth, and the red will be better when plants are flowering…

Look forward to hearing from you, Regards K

A: From our very own Sylvia………….

Dear K, Thank you for your email. You are so right. You obviously know your light spectrum well.

The answer is that the Plug and Grow Light comes with a white bulb and we do have the red bulbs in stock for £32.50 inclusive of Vat and P&P. They are on the website at this link:

http://www.recycleworks.co.uk/plug-grow-200w-red-flowering-bulb-pr-16445.html

And the light with a white bulb

I hope you find this reply helpful. Please ask again if not and we will try again. Best regards, Sylvia
